Honeymoon Phase over : Gavaskar

Now the Indian team have to brace for tough matches and the simple games seem to be over, said the veteran, Gavaskar.

The honey moon phase is over. The first challenge is facing formidable SA at Nagpur, on a pitch which favours batting. It is true that India lost the series to SA in SA 3-2, but then India was without Sehwag, Sachin and Gambhir, their top order batsmen ! India is richer by the experience, as she can try new tricks in Nagpur.

Media defines India as being formidable in batting, atrocious in fielding and mediocre in bowling. Bowlers are ordinary and fielding has be to improved if India is to bring home the bacon.

The 'formidable batting' of India has to assert itself, if India is to win the match. If batsmen click, the battle is half won !

The India media is aghast at the way Indian batsmen perspired against the Dutch and the Irish bowlers ! Powerful batters always tend to finish the match early and in the last match, Indian batsmen let go of caution and adopted an aggressive approach, to increase the NRR. Sachin was playing lofted lofts early, a sight you will not see oftem. But then when India lost five wickets, there were some nervousness inside the stadium, which was understandable. It was the experience of Yuvraj and the sang froid of Dhoni which saw India through !

It seems India's best bowler is Yuvraj, even though the main strike bowlers are Zaheer and Bajji. The captain can give more overs to the part time spinners and hope springs eternal in the human breast, even if the main bowlers are thrashed, said the Indian batsman !
